How to fish it · for trout
When
Current conditions suit Embalse de Trasona well for summer tactics. The ripple should help fish move and feed more confidently.
Where
Start with Damsel Nymph (12-14) on a slow figure-of-eight or hang under indicator. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely. When no hatch is visible, a buzzer team — black stripped quill on the point, attractor or pearl-rib on the top dropper — is the default starting point on any UK stillwater.
The plan
Plan A

Start with Damsel Nymph (12-14) on a slow figure-of-eight or hang under indicator. If that does not produce, switch depth or speed before changing the pattern entirely. When no hatch is visible, a buzzer team — black stripped quill on the point, attractor or pearl-rib on the top dropper — is the default starting point on any UK stillwater.

Plan B

Fish early and late, try deeper during the heat of the day with a fast-sinking line.

Watch for

Evening tends to be the best period in summer — stay late if you can for a sedge or spinner fall.

Either bank or boat

Good ripple suits both bank and boat. Bank: work inflows, dam walls, and points. Boat: broadside drift covering wind lanes.

About this water

A reservoir near Corvera/Avilés that formerly served as a coto intensivo for put-and-take rainbow trout. Like the other city-adjacent intensivos (San Andrés, La Granda), there is no clear evidence of current trout stocking. The 2016 critique of salmonid management in Asturias noted that restocking programmes were often poorly managed, and the pattern since COVID has been one of quiet decline rather than intentional phase-out. What remains is a mixed coarse fishery dominated by carp with occasional brown trout. For a genuinely stocked Asturian stillwater, El Arenero at Tineo is the realistic option.
