Zug Bug

Peacock-herl searching dropper
Trout · GraylingSubsurface

Peacock-herl attractor nymph that also passes for the dark Isonychia/Slate Drake nymph; a reliable searching dropper.

Fish this when

As a searching dropper on faster runs and riffles with no obvious hatch showing, or through the Isonychia emergence on rivers where the Slate Drake nymph is active.

Why it works

Peacock herl's natural iridescence gives the fly a buggy, multi-dimensional flash under water that reads as general prey rather than one species, so it draws fish even when nothing specific is coming off.
