A CDC-winged or elk-hair caddis for Pyrenean rivers, named for the thing it is for: the evening sedge hatch. On the Gave d'Aspe and the Nive tributaries from June to September, the evening sedge is the most reliable event of the season — trout that have been invisible all day appear at the surface of every pool.
Fish this when
Summer evenings, June to September, on any Pyrenean river. Cast across-and-down and let the fly drag slightly — the running sedge is what they're chasing, and a stationary fly is less convincing than a moving one.
