The dead mayfly — wings laid flat in the film, the business of egg-laying finished. On Corrib and Mask, the late-afternoon spent fall brings the season's most careful rises: fish that have been crashing duns all morning now sip tiny sips in the calm bays, and the only answer is the spent gnat presented perfectly and left to do nothing.
Fish this when
Late afternoon and evening during the mayfly season (May–June). When rising fish become quiet and selective — they have switched from duns to spent. Any drag or movement is fatal.
