Black Elk-Hair Caddis
TroutSurface
A dark elk-hair caddis for alpine streams, where the evening caddis hatches from June through August are the most reliable surface fishing of the season. Dark body — brown-black — matches the Rhyacophila and other species common at altitude. It rides well in fast water, which is the main requirement.
Fish this when
Evening caddis hatches in alpine valleys, June to August. Cast across or slightly upstream — a little drag or skitter is an advantage, not a problem. Alpine trout take a moving caddis deliberately and without much hesitation.
