Royal Wulff
The Royal Wulff is as closely associated with brook trout as any pattern that exists. In fast pocket water and mountain streams, brook trout take it on sight. Peacock body, red floss band, white calf-tail wing.
Pocket water, small mountain streams, any time brook trout are looking up. When nothing is hatching and something visible is needed.
The contrast of peacock, red and white is highly visible to both fish and angler. Brook trout are opportunistic and often respond to visible attractor patterns before exact imitations.
Starting points, not rules — depth, presentation and size usually matter more.
For an attractor, try Royal or another brightly coloured body in broken water where visibility matters. Choose Grey, Brown or Ausable under cloud or over darker water. Use White or a pale Wulff in bright conditions or to imitate light-bodied mayflies. During a genuine hatch, match the natural insect rather than relying on the weather rule.
