During a Baetis spinner fall on quieter glides and pool tails, spring through autumn — midday on cold early-season afternoons when insects need warmth to fly, dusk once summer water holds the fall back that late. Fish it dead and flush, never twitched.

The rust-red body matches the egg-swollen abdomen of a spent female Baetis, and lying dead in the film gives fish an easy, unhurried target at the moment they're keyed on drifting spinners rather than emerging duns.
