Pale Yellow Emerger
A delicate pale yellow CDC or dubbed emerger built to match pale, cream-yellow emerging duns — Baetis and Ephemerella on the calcareous rivers of northern Spain, and the Sulphur and Pale Morning Dun hatches of American spring creeks and tailwaters. Fish take it and refuse everything else when the hatch is on.
Spring and early summer, in the last half-hour of a pale-olive or Sulphur/PMD hatch, when duns are struggling in the film rather than popping straight off. Fish it dead-drift in slower glides — on Asturian and Cantabrian limestone rivers, or American spring creeks and tailwaters during a Sulphur hatch.
Pale yellow matches the colouration of emerging Baetis, Ephemerella and Sulphur duns alike. A fly that sits in the film rather than on it matches the exact moment of emergence that selective trout focus on, wherever a pale hatch is coming off.
