Tiny flush-floating terrestrial
TroutSurface

Vince Marinaro's tiny flush-floating terrestrial — a jungle-cock or feather wing laid flat over a small hook to imitate a leafhopper. A landmark fly of the limestone-creek tradition, designed for the impossible flat-water trout that ignore everything with a visible silhouette.

Fish this when

Summer on flat, clear limestone and spring-creek water when trout sip minute terrestrials. Fish a size 18–22 on a long fine tippet and a dead drift to sighted fish.

Why it works

Leafhoppers are everywhere on summer meadows and constantly fall in. The flat, opaque wing shows the right tiny silhouette against the sky and floats in the film, where a flat-water trout expects a trapped hopper.
