Appalachian chartreuse trigger

A short plug of chartreuse chenille on a hook — about as simple as a fly gets, and improbably effective. Born on Loyalhanna Creek and beloved across Appalachia, it suggests an inchworm dropping off the canopy or a green caddis larva, and trout hammer it.
Fish this when
Late spring through summer on Appalachian and eastern streams, especially when trees overhang the water and inchworms are dropping. Fish it dead-drift just under the surface or as a dropper.
Why it works
Inchworms fall into wooded streams all summer and trout learn to expect the chartreuse blob. As a pure trigger it works even where no naturals are present — the colour alone provokes a take.
