Green Highlander
Bright green, yellow, and orange — the Green Highlander is the classic summer salmon fly. Built for the Scottish Highland rivers in their summer colours during the Victorian era, it travelled with Scottish tying tradition to become a mainstay on Atlantic Canadian rivers, and remains a proven choice on English, Welsh and Irish beats besides. In warm, low summer water, it is hard to argue against it.
Summer through early autumn on clear rivers with low, warm water — Scottish and Norwegian rivers where it originated, Atlantic Canadian salmon rivers where it's now a summer staple, and English, Welsh and Irish beats too. Fish across and down on a classic swing, smaller in lower water.
