Glo Bug

Classic yarn egg
Trout · Salmon · Sea troutSubsurface

A simple ball of McFly Foam or Glo Bug yarn, spun and trimmed round — the original drifting-egg pattern. Steelhead, salmon and the trout that drop in behind them key on loose eggs washing free of the redds, and nothing reads that round, translucent profile more honestly than a well-tied Glo Bug.

Fish this when

Behind spawning salmon and steelhead through autumn and winter, and across the egg-drop on tailwaters. Dead-drift it under an indicator close to the bottom, in the seams below the redds.

Why it works

Fish stationed below spawning runs intercept drifting eggs almost reflexively — it's free, high-value protein. The round yarn profile and egg colours (cheese, oregon, steelhead orange) read as the real thing in the current.
