Yellow and red bucktail over a yellow silk body — the Garry Dog has been taking Scottish salmon since the mid-twentieth century. It is the brightest of the Scottish hairwings and in coloured spring water it is the only fly you need.

Fish this when

In coloured or peaty spring water when something bright is needed to pull fish. Also effective in high summer on a big river when fish need motivation.

Why it works

Yellow and red are the combination that salmon respond to most aggressively in coloured water. The Garry Dog is simply the most direct expression of that instinct.
