Fry pattern
Floating Fry
Rainbow trout · TroutSurface
A buoyant deer-hair or foam fry fished static in the surface film among the carnage of a fry massacre. It imitates the casualties — the dead and dying fish the big trout mop up at leisure.
Fish this when
Autumn, when trout are smashing into fry shoals against dam walls, weed beds and aerators. Cast into the disturbance and leave it dead still.
Why it works
Once a trout has herded a shoal it returns to pick off the stunned and floating casualties — an inert fry on the top is the easiest meal of the day.
Naturals it imitates
dead or injured coarse fry
