An Asturian salmon tube fly — hot orange and black — that goes by the name Lanzallamas ('flamethrower') in Spanish. Tied specifically for the spate rivers of Asturias, it combines the brightness needed to pull salmon from coloured water with enough body to swing in faster currents.

Fish this when

In coloured or dropping spring and summer water on the Asturian salmon rivers — Sella, Narcea, Cares/Deva. When the river is carrying colour and fish are running.

Why it works

Orange is the most visible colour in peaty or coloured Atlantic water. The tube fly format lets it swing naturally in the strong Asturian spate currents.
