Diving surface fly

Dahlberg Diver

PikeSurface

A spun deer-hair head that dives and burbles on the strip then floats back up on the pause — the great pike and bass surface-to-subsurface fly. A rabbit-strip tail gives the kicking action.

Fish this when

Warm, calm conditions over weed and shallow margins when pike are looking up, worked with sharp strips and long pauses.

Why it works

The collared deer-hair head pushes a wake and pulls under on the strip, imitating a panicked fish diving for cover — the exact trigger an ambush predator cannot ignore.
