Black foam body, splayed legs, indestructible floatation. Cast tight to cover, land with a deliberate small plop, count five seconds, then twitch a half inch. The fly that covers ninety per cent of the chub year.

Fish this when

Any bright, warm day from June through September with chub holding under overhanging willow, alder or bramble. The first fly on every summer session.

Why it works

The audible plop on delivery imitates a beetle blown from foliage. Chub recognise the sound and investigate; the motionless drift looks like a drowning natural, and the single subtle twitch closes the deal.
