Black & Peacock Spider

ChubFilm

Black ostrich-herl body, peacock thorax, soft black hen hackle. The traditional wet fly that fishes the film and the inch beneath — swung across the current or dead-drifted under a small dry.

Fish this when

Overcast days or after rain when chub are taking subsurface but refusing the dry. Also as the dropper above a heavier nymph for searching unfamiliar water.

Why it works

Reads as a drowned beetle on the swing and as a pupating caddis on the drift. Black silhouette against the surface from below is what the chub eye registers.
