A slip of CDC set upright as a single wing, riding high on the hook — the freshly hatched dun with its wings still up, drying. Where the F-Fly lies flat and drowned in the film, this one sits on the surface with its wing raised, giving selective fish the classic upright-dun silhouette.

Fish this when

Through an olive hatch on clear, flat water in spring and early summer, when fish are taking the winged dun on the surface rather than the emerger just beneath it.

Why it works

The raised CDC wing throws the high-riding profile of a newly hatched dun and traps light like real wing membrane, so fish keyed on upright wings take it when a flat-winged F-Fly is refused.
