Cains River Special
Miramichi autumn salmon fly
SalmonMid-depth
Named for the Cains River — the principal spawning tributary of the Miramichi, famous for the great autumn run of large grilse and salmon. This local pattern has been fished on the Cains for generations and is the fly that Miramichi guides reach for in October.
Fish this when
Autumn on the Cains and lower Miramichi when the big October run is on. In medium to low water with good colour and dropping temperatures.
Why it works
A river-specific pattern carrying decades of local refinement. The Cains River fish see very few flies that are not from this tradition — and they respond to what they recognise.
