The practical weighted baitfish option when asp are not high enough for unweighted streamers — dumbbell eyes get the fly down fast and create a jigging action on the strip-pause.

Fish this when

Deeper current lanes, slightly coloured water, fish holding below baitfish. Also when the wind makes casting unweighted flies difficult.

Why it works

Asp strike down from above as often as they hit laterally. A jigging retrieve that yo-yos through the water column can provoke fish that are ignoring flat-swimming patterns.
