How to fish it · for brown trout
When
Through the open trout season. Spring olives April through May; sedges through summer; small dark flies into autumn close.
Where
Pool tails and the seams behind boulders through the central Brittany stretches. The Aulne is bigger water than most Breton rivers.
Method
Upstream dry to risers; dry-dropper through the riffles. Breton spate freestone — fish 12 to 24 hours after rain on the drop. Long leader, fine tippet.
Kit
9 ft #4 — Breton spate freestone. Floating line, 12 ft leader to 4 lb fluoro. Studded boots.
Why this works
⚠️ Water at 21.4°C — above the brown trout caution line (18°C). Fish dawn or dusk only. Land it fast, wet hands, no air shots. Otherwise very poor — water clarity is in the right range.

About this water

Atlantic salmon and sea trout on Armorican granite in Finistère. Spring salmon March–May. Fish rising water after Atlantic storms when fresh flow brings fish upstream. Clear water between spates thanks to granite drainage. Standard tactics: tubes 1–1.5 inch in flood, dries and doubles as conditions clear. Sea trout excellent. Check Finistère arrêté for season and catch-and-release obligations.
