About this water

The Terra Nova flows through the national park of the same name into Newman Sound — accessible by road, with reliable public salmon water, and the kind of intact riverbank setting that the park boundary protects. Atlantic salmon run from June, though the rod season opens 1 July; brook trout are present through the headwaters and throughout the lower river between salmon lies. A river that fishes well without demanding a floatplane or a week's planning. Reliable grilse summer fishing in country that remains good country. Granite-based upland geology shapes this river. Atlantic salmon are managed under DFO conservation rules — mandatory catch-and-release of large (multi-sea-winter) salmon applies in most areas, with any grilse retention strictly limited by zone; check current regulations before fishing.
