When
Regional trout season, 29 March to 4 October. The upper Taro through Tornolo holds up better through summer than the lower river, but it's still a small Apennine catchment — chase it after rain rather than in a settled dry spell.
Where
The runs and pool heads through Tornolo and the Piane di Carniglia water downstream of the dam, plus any structure — timber, bedrock ledges — through the wooded upper valley.
Method
Nymph the faster water short-line; dry-dropper the softer glides once fish are showing. The tourist water at Piane di Carniglia is stocked and forgiving; the wild water above asks for more care and stealth.
Kit
8.5 to 9.5 ft #3/4 rod, floating line, 9 to 11 ft leader to 5 lb fluoro. Wading boots with good grip on the sandstone ledges.
