The Taro rises on Monte Penna in the Ligurian Apennines and has settled into proper trout water by the time it reaches Tornolo — sandstone runs, timbered banks, native Mediterranean-strain fario holding tight to whatever structure the river offers. The stocked tourist water at Piane di Carniglia gives visitors an easy way in; the wilder water above and around it rewards anyone willing to walk a bit further and fish a bit quieter.
