The South Nahanni is one of the planet's legendary wilderness rivers — deep canyons, the great Virginia Falls, and a place where the canoe expedition is the real adventure. The silty mainstem isn't fly water, but the clear tributaries and side waters hold excellent Arctic grayling with bull trout and lake trout about. Fish the clear feeders on dries between the canyons of a National Park journey.
The South Nahanni, in its namesake national park reserve, is one of the great wilderness rivers of the world — a powerful, partly silty mountain river of deep canyons and the thundering Virginia Falls, holding Arctic grayling, bull trout / Dolly Varden and lake trout in clearer tributaries and side waters. Fishing is secondary to the legendary canoe expedition, but the grayling in the clear feeders are excellent.
