About this water

Latvia's premier migratory salmonid river, flowing from Lake Burtnieks to the Gulf of Riga. The Salaca is one of the most important Atlantic salmon and sea-trout rivers in the eastern Baltic, but the practical public angling picture is tightly regulated and zone-based rather than broad access. Devonian sandstone geology gives the river its characteristic amber-tinted clarity, with rapids and pools over a relatively short course.
