About this water

The Lagan at Shaw's Bridge is fifteen minutes from central Belfast and holds wild brown trout. The DAERA Public Angling Estate stretch runs from Shaw's Bridge to the Red Bridge — the better fishing sits in the faster sections where the river has pace and the trout have somewhere to hold. Salmon run from summer onwards; catch and release only. A convenient after-work water, not a destination river, and better for it. Atlantic salmon are managed under DAERA and Loughs Agency conservation byelaws, with mandatory catch-and-release on many waters; check current rules before fishing.

Hatches & food

No venue-specific hatch data yet; on this lowland reach, expect the same steady mixed diet of upwings, sedges and midges typical of the wider river rather than a confirmed hatch at this specific stretch — general guidance only.
