About this water

The Rißbach is one of the last rivers in the Tyrol that nobody has got round to taming. It runs for more than thirty kilometres through the Karwendel, spreading across wide gravel beds between limestone walls, and its brown trout and brook char breed on their own — the river has been fished without stocking for years, and the new lessee has promised to keep it that way. That is the good news. The rest is still settling: the lease changed hands in spring 2026 and the new ticket arrangements had not been published when this was written, so treat everything here except the river itself as provisional. The gravel banks are sensitive ground, too. Keep to the water's edge and leave the vegetated islands alone.
