StonefliesThe Irigoyen is a small, tree-lined sea-trout river on the far south-east coast of Tierra del Fuego, some 180 km south of Río Grande, and a very different proposition from the big steppe rivers to the north. For most of its length it runs through lenga and southern beech forest, which takes the edge off the Fuegian wind, before breaking out onto the bare coastal plain for its last stretch to the Atlantic. Sea-run browns average 8–12 lb and fish over 20 lb are landed most seasons, yet the pools are intimate enough that a single-handed rod is the right tool; Sunray Shadows, Stoat's Tails and Collie Dogs swung through the holding water at first and last light remain the core approach. The fishing is exclusive to World's End Lodge on Estancia María Luisa, which takes four rods a week across five beats spread over about 24 km from the sea, so this is booked, guided water rather than somewhere to turn up and fish.
