Sunray Shadow
Sunray Shadow1.5–2 inch tubes
The definitive Mörrums fly — stripped, swung or hitched through the named pools. The Sunray Shadow has been central to Mörrumsån fishing for decades. Stripped fast through slow summer pools provokes reaction takes from fish that won't follow a swung fly.

How to fish it · for atlantic salmon
When
Morning into early afternoon.
Where
Pool tails, steadier runs, and any water with pace.
Method
Fish a sensible line-and-fly combination for the height and pace of water.
Kit
13 ft #8/9 double-hander in spate, 10 ft #8 single in low water. Floating line plus a fast-sink tip. 12–15 lb fluoro tippet.
Why this works
⚠️ Water at 18.6°C — above the atlantic salmon caution line (18°C). Fish dawn or dusk only. Land it fast, wet hands, no air shots. Otherwise poor — water clarity is in the right range.

The Mörrum is not a walk-up river. Sweden's allemansrätten (right of public access) lets you walk the banks, but it does not include the right to fish — fishing rights here are owned and managed, and you fish only with the right permit (fiskekort) for the water you stand on. The bulk of the famous water is run as one operator-managed fishery, Mörrum Kronolaxfiske, by the state forestry company Sveaskog: a numbered pool-and-permit system on the lower seven kilometres, sold by licence type and date-map, fished between 05:00 and 24:00, with mandatory catch registration. Different maps apply for the summer, specimen-identification and specimen-angling periods, and all fish are released under the current catch-and-release regime — there is no day-ticket free-for-all. Buy through Sveaskog / Mörrum Kronolaxfiske; confirm the current licence type, pool map and fishing hours before travelling.

Sveaskog / Mörrum Kronolaxfiske
The core operator-managed water on the lower river — Sweden's most celebrated salmon and sea-trout fishery, run by Sveaskog as a numbered pool-and-permit system across the classic lower seven kilometres. You buy a licence type for a date-map period rather than walking up; fishing runs 05:00–24:00 and every fish caught is registered. Spring-run river: salmon push from late April to mid-June (May peak), fresh sea trout from March.
Fiskekort required per the date-map; fishing hours 05:00–24:00. All fish released under the current catch-and-release regime; quota historically capped (2 killed fish/season, 1/day, min 50 cm) but C&R applies in practice — confirm current Sveaskog rule. Mandatory catch registration via website or reception; equipment disinfection required. Separate season-map periods for summer, specimen ID and specimen angling.
Pools 5–7 — May closureGuide / lodge
Sveaskog / Mörrum Kronolaxfiske
A hard seasonal closure to know before you plan an early-season trip: Sveaskog's own rules close Pools 5, 6 and 7 for the whole of May (1–31 May), exactly when the spring salmon run is building. Plan early-May days around the pools that remain open.
Pools 5, 6 and 7 closed 1–31 May. All other Mörrum Kronolaxfiske rules apply (fiskekort, 05:00–24:00, mandatory registration, catch-and-release).

About this water

Sweden's most famous Atlantic salmon river and one of Europe's legendary mixed salmon-and-sea-trout venues. The Mörrum has held a salmon fishery since medieval times and produces trophy-class multi-sea-winter fish regularly. Uniquely among Swedish salmon rivers, it is a spring-run fishery — Sveaskog's own material says most salmon migrate upriver from the end of April to the middle of June. Fresh sea trout are highlighted from March through July, with an autumn return component. Established beat system with Sveaskog management, public catch visibility, and mandatory registration. All fish are released under the current catch-and-release regime. Clear water, responsive to rainfall. Mix of Sveaskog and public beats. Fiskekort from iFiske. Atlantic salmon are managed under national rules (Havs- och vattenmyndigheten) — quotas, size limits and catch-and-release apply and differ between Baltic and west-coast rivers; check current rules before fishing.
