Moraine Creek is one of the names that makes Alaska feel like Alaska: a remote Katmai/Bristol Bay headwater creek where big wild rainbows line up behind spawning sockeye and where the whole river is read through the salmon cycle. It is smaller, clearer and more intimate than the Naknek or Kvichak, and much more of a pure fly-out trophy-rainbow experience. This page should be useful as a destination filter — egg/flesh timing, fly-out logistics, bear risk and conservative handling — not as a casual go-now river recommendation.
