Taneycomo is a lake on the map and a tailwater in the water — the cold flow from the bottom of Table Rock Reservoir turns the upper end below the dam into a genuine trout fishery in the middle of Branson's tourist bustle. The reach near the dam is the fly water: cold, clear, and rich, fished for rainbows and a protected head of bigger browns. It runs on Table Rock generation like the Arkansas tailwaters do — low water for wading and technical midge fishing up top, current and depth when the units come on. The rules matter here and are specific: a no-fishing zone right below the dam, an artificial-only flies-and-lures zone from there down to Fall Creek, a protected slot for rainbows, and a Missouri trout permit requirement. Get the rules right, fish the upper reach, and it's a surprisingly serious trout river.
