The Geul is the Netherlands' only honest trout stream — small, limestone-fed, and entirely uninterested in being easy. Wild browns hold in pocket water and short drifts through the South Limburg hills, each fish hardened by the river's particular temperament. They're not numerous, which is rather the point. Fly fishing here means actually paying attention, reading the water properly, placing the fly where a trout might reasonably see it. Not flashy. Not easy. Exactly right.
