Not to be confused with the more famous salmon Carron in Wester Ross, this Carron is the Stirlingshire one — the river that runs through Denny and Larbert before joining the Forth below Grangemouth. It has had a hard industrial past and the lower reaches still show it, but the upper and middle river above Denny is a genuinely pleasant little wild trout stream, fished by local clubs and holding a good head of small to modest brown trout. It's proof of the thing Scottish anglers already know — that even the Central Belt's forgotten rivers can reward a patient fly fisher with a few hours of honest fishing if you know where to go. Day ticket fishing through Denny & District Angling Club and similar.
