Little recent rain — fresh fish runs unlikely. Focus on resident fish and established lies.
Set up a broadside drift and cover the water systematically. Work Black Leech on the bob and Bunny Leech on the point.
If the main plan is not working, switch to a smaller, more imitative pattern fished slower and deeper. A change of drift angle can also make a difference.
Evening tends to be the best period in summer — stay late if you can for a sedge or spinner fall.
A gentle ripple is ideal for drifting — broadside drift covering the wind lanes should be productive.

- Remote fly-in lodge access dominates and catch-and-release expectations are central to the trophy brook trout fishery
- Check lodge and provincial rules rather than relying on generic trout-season language.
A good match for Minipi — most conditions are close to what it fishes best in.
- Wind conditions (ripple) closely match what this water fishes best in.
- Trout 1 July → 31 August
- Brook trout late June → mid-September
Minipi Watershed is the benchmark trophy brook trout fishery. Access is exclusively through fly-in lodges (primarily Minipi Lodge, plus outpost camps) operating from Happy Valley–Goose Bay. No road access. Catch-and-release is the expectation — these are wild Labrador fish of exceptional size, 2–4 kg typical, 5+ kg known. NL provincial fishing licence required plus lodge access. Fly fishing only is standard lodge policy. Lee Wulff fished here in the 1950s; the fishery remains pristine precisely because access is controlled.
