Parachute dry
Blue-Winged Olive Parachute
Trout · GraylingSurface
An olive-bodied dun with the hackle wound flat around an upright post, so the fly sits IN the surface rather than on hackle points. The post shows up against glare and broken water at sizes where a Comparadun disappears.
Fish this when
Through a BWO hatch on rivers from late spring to autumn, especially the long summer evening rise. Reach for it over a Comparadun when the light is bad, the water is riffled, or you simply cannot see what you are fishing.
Why it works
The parachute hackle drops the body flush into the film, which is where a freshly emerged dun actually sits, while leaving a wing post the angler can track. It buys visibility without the high-riding silhouette that makes a fish refuse.
