The Teith is the Forth system's one genuine salmon river — a fine-looking piece of water that drains Loch Lubnaig and Loch Venachar through the Trossachs and joins the Forth near Stirling, carrying a spring run of salmon and a summer run of grilse that is small by comparison with the Tay but real enough to matter. It also holds excellent brown trout, particularly on the middle beats between Callander and Doune, where the river runs fast and clear over gravel and boulders. Most beats are privately let through estates and the Teith District Salmon Fishery Board; club water exists for day-ticket trout fishing through Callander and Doune Angling Clubs. Spring salmon run from March; grilse from June; autumn run through September and October.
