River Alness / Averon

Easter Ross, GB-SCTspategranite30 kmSalmon river

A compact Easter Ross salmon river — also known as the Averon — with a clearer beat structure than many west-coast systems. The Novar Fishings rotation is the obvious premium anchor: six rotating beats over upper and lower sections, fly-only, with anglers rotating through beats during a week. A separate club/estuary access layer exists but needs current verification.

Novar Fishings season. Six rotating beats, average ~1 mile each, usually 15-20 named pools per beat, mostly double-bank. Fly only — no spinning or fixed-spool reels; single and double hooks only; catch returns required; rotation changes at 06:00 and 13:00. Confirm the current Scottish conservation grading and any mandatory release rule with the controller.

Tactical notes

A fly-only, beat-rotation river where local water knowledge matters — the Novar beats fish best on a falling spate as colour clears. Single and double hooks only; no spinning. Keep a record for the required catch returns.
