Pupa Pattern

Grannom's under-the-radar pupa
Trout · GraylingSubsurface

Generic ascending-pupa dressing; during the Grannom hatch this subsurface pupa typically out-fishes the adult.

Fish this when

During the early-spring Grannom hatch on UK and Irish rivers, when the air is full of adults but the actual takes are happening under the surface.

Why it works

Most Grannom pupae never make it through the film cleanly, so fish key on the struggling pupa below rather than the adult riding on top — which is exactly why a plain ascending pupa quietly outfishes the dry.
