The Ljusnan runs east across central Sweden through Hälsingland — a big river in the Scandinavian sense, with wide gravel runs, strong hatches, and the kind of grayling-to-trout ratio that keeps things interesting through a long fishing day. Mid-Sweden geography means the season extends well into October, when the grayling fishing is at its best and the birch trees have gone yellow against the spruce. Not a famous river, which is part of what makes it worth going. Sedge hatches from July onward; the grayling in the slower pool tails are as good a reason as the trout.
