One of the few rivers explicitly named by Estonia's Environmental Board as a salmon river. The Jägala flows north to the Gulf of Finland, dropping dramatically over the widest natural waterfall in Estonia (~8m) where it crosses the North Estonian Klint limestone escarpment. Below the falls, good salmon and sea-trout habitat with rapids, runs and pools over Ordovician limestone. A short, compact coastal river. Autumn salmon run September–November. Fishing card required; daily limit 2 salmon or 2 trout (or 1 of each); catch reporting mandatory.
