Glasfryn sits on acidic upland ground in Gwynedd, fished for rainbows and browns, and the acid catchment tells you most of what you need to know. Soft, peaty water doesn't carry the rich insect life of a limestone lake, so the trout here are more opportunist than connoisseur — which, depending on your mood, is either a relief or a challenge. Upland weather does what it likes, and the fishing follows it. A cool overcast day with a ripple is the prize; flat calm and bright sun the penance. The browns in particular have a wild streak to them, holding deeper and harder to tempt than the stocked rainbows. Bring a few attractors and a bit of stubbornness and the place gives back what you put in.
