The Cashen is the tidal estuary of the Feale River system — the lower 10 km below Finuge Bridge. It fishes as a distinct salmon and sea-trout venue from the parent Feale, with a stronger sea-trout reputation than the upper river. The estuary enters Cashen Bay near Ballybunion in north Kerry, with macrotidal range (4–5 m on springs). Highly productive in the 12–36 hours after rain when water is dropping and clearing. Grilse from June; sea trout from May. Subject to Atlantic tidal conditions; plan around a falling tide. A compact but classic salmon/sea-trout venue.
